Del 28-29 de setiembre pasado se realizó el II Festival Arte Viva en Puerto Viejo de Limón. Llegamos cuando recién se estaba inaugurando… pero dónde están Karla y Claudio?, me preguntaba entre la multitud de personas que disfrutaba del arte plástico, decorativo, musical, étnico, etc.

Entré a la Casa de la Cultura (bellamente decorada para el disfrute de grandes y niños)… no los encontraba; me dirigí entonces a la plaza donde estaban las tarimas esperando a los shows de música en vivo y las proyecciones en pantalla gigante… tampoco los encontré; me fui al sector de venta de artesanías, productos naturales, ropa y demás… AHÍ ESTABAN!!!, finalmente me reuno con ellos!

Una vez “localizados”, ya más tranquilo, me dirijo a la calle del siempre buena vibra Café Viejo, al frente de las tornamezas del Dj, que esta vez están localizadas afuera (y vale anotar que la calle se cerró completamente para que se convirtiera en un dance floor seguro y al aire libre) y debajo de una luna enorme, las estrellas y el mejor clima de Puerto Viejo, comenzó la fiesta nocturna al beat de la música del dj con la calle repleta de una gran variedad de nacionalidades. Comenzó el festival que durará 3 días más!

Un festival para todos al mismo tiempo: arte para niños, adultos, tres diferentes escenarios de música (étnica, calypso, electrónica), pantalla gigante de proyecciones, y mucho más. Felicidades por esta iniciativa. Costa Rica sería muy diferente si éstas actividades se organizaran en más lugares. Nos une como pueblo a todos y le damos a los niños un ejemplo de tolerancia, respeto y diversion a través del arte. No se pueden perder el festival 2008!

The 28th and 29th of September was the second annual art festival, Arte Viva in Puerto Viejo, Limon. We arrive right when the inauguration began… “But where is Karla and Claudio?” I asked my self among the multitude of people that were enjoying the art, decorations, music and ethnic culture.

I entered the House of Culture (beautifully decorated for grown-ups and children) and did not find them. I then headed towards the plaza where the stage was set up with gigantic screen projections for the live music shows … I didn't find them there either. I walked over to the crafts sector, which also included natural products, clothes and other items… THERE THEY WERE!!! I finally met up with them!

Once I located them, I was more calm and headed to the street next to the good vibe place Cafe Viejo, which was right in front of the Dj's turntables located outside, under an enormous moon, stars, and the best climate of Puerto Viejo (and it is worth to note that the street was completely closed off so that it became an outdoor dance floor). And then the night began with the beat of the music. The whole street was filled with a great variety of nationalities. This started the 3 day long festival!

An art festival for all types and ages: art for children, adults, three different genres of music (tropical, calypso, electronic), gigantic projection screens and a lot more. Congratulations for this initiative. Costa Rica would be a very different place if these activities were organized in more location. It unites us as a town and gives children an example of tolerance, respect and diversion through art. You cannot miss out on the 2008 festival!
